Some (semi-historic) thoughts: RoseWind Ramblings

Background:My partner and I planned our move to build our own home in the RoseWind Cohousing community for several years. We became members of this community in 1995 while still living in our Seattle home. We “retired” from our jobs, and lived in Port Townsend while building, then moved into our first RoseWind home in 1998. We actually sold that home in 2007, but we are still members of RoseWind, living in the home we built in 2010.
The following writings seem like ancient history to me now, in 2026. And also a bit pretentious: I wanted to be a good writer, but I gave up on that long ago! Anyway rather than modify these, I hope to add some new pieces to update my story. It may happen…

On changes in Port Townsend
Quimper Valley near me was once open meadow, but is now a nice neat cohousing community for seniors. I am sure it is a good and needed place for the residents, but I have some regrets.
Last year this time swallows swooped here: feeding. Savannah sparrows clung here to tall swaying grass: singing. Sparrows prepared nests here on safe ground below. At night an owl hunted here for the small sleek beasties to feed it’s young. But today in this valley I see one sparrow. It sits on a post, with no safe place here. In only a moment it will fly away from this small valley. This bird has no tall grass home here in this built and landscaped valley.
